March 19, 2024 – Rep. Stephanie Scialaba (R-Butler) announced that a bill she co-authored with Rep. Ed Nielson passed the House on Monday.
“This was a major initiative when I came to the House. I am very pleased that House Bill 1201 has finally passed the House,” said Sharaba. “I am excited to use my experience as a data privacy attorney to bring Pennsylvania’s privacy laws into the 21st century. We must not lag behind other countries in this regard. It provides long-awaited, common-sense and long-overdue privacy rights to your data. House Bill 1201 benefits all Pennsylvanians, and we are working with the Senate to get it to the Governor’s desk. I look forward to working on it.”
“It is great to work with Rep. Shalaba on a bipartisan basis to pass House Bill 1201. House Bill 1201 is a framework bill to protect Pennsylvanians, and it would not have been possible without Rep. Shalaba’s expertise on data privacy. There wouldn’t have been,” said the House Transportation Committee chairman. Ed Nielson (D-Philadelphia). “We were able to pass the bill in a bipartisan manner. The vote was very strong and it passed overwhelmingly.”
The bill would target commercial businesses that operate in Pennsylvania, control personal information, and have annual revenues of more than $10 million or that derive at least 50% of their annual revenue from the sale of consumer information. .
