BEDFORD, Va. (WFXR) — The City of Bedford announced that hundreds of residents in the Big Island and Weese Valley communities now have access to Verizon internet service.
This was done after the company completed a broadband project in the region. As a result, the new project will provide access to high-speed internet to approximately 1,000 addresses in Bedford County.
“We are pleased to reach this important milestone in Bedford County’s broadband deployment,” said Edgar Tuck, Chairman of the Bedford County Board of Supervisors.
Starting March 1, Verizon Fios is now available at eligible addresses in this region. An email you receive from Verizon informing you of eligible addresses, services and next steps. Residents can also check available services on Verizon’s website.
The project first began in March 2023, and in one year Verizon has installed 90 miles of broadband fiber in northern Bedford County.
“Building a reliable, affordable, high-speed broadband infrastructure that works for all Virginians requires bringing multiple partners to the table to deliver projects of that scope. ” said Dr. Tamara Holmes, Virginia Broadband Office Director. “Bedford County and Verizon should be commended for working together to bring broadband access to some of the county’s most remote areas, and we can celebrate their success in making this project a reality. I am very happy to be able to do this.”
