Under the partnership, Nokia and IISc will collaborate at Nokia’s newly opened 6G lab in Bengaluru.
Finnish vendor Nokia has announced that it will expand its 6G efforts in India by partnering with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to jointly research 6G technology and 6G use cases, the former said in a release. Ta.
Under the partnership, Nokia and IISc will collaborate at Nokia’s newly opened 6G Lab in Bengaluru, and both companies will focus on three core research areas: 6G radio technology, 6G architecture, and application of machine learning to 6G air interface. Pursue the field. The collaboration will also develop reference architectures, software frameworks, and algorithms with the primary aim of contributing joint research to the 6G technology and standards ecosystem.
While the nature of the research is global, Nokia and IISc said there will be a particular focus on 6G use cases that address areas of particular importance to India. These use cases include:
– Building more sustainable and energy efficient communication systems,
-Improve network resiliency and reliability for critical communications.
– Use AI and develop “network as sensor” technology to improve transportation safety, strengthen healthcare, and increase access to education.
Through this initiative, Nokia and IISc plan to advance India’s ‘Bharat 6G Vision’ and aim to position India as a leading global contributor in the design, development and implementation of 6G technology.
In October 2023, Nokia opened a 6G lab at its Global R&D Center in Bangalore. The research facility aims to accelerate the development of foundational technologies and innovative use cases backed by 6G technology, as well as foster collaboration between Nokia and the Indian academic community. The collaboration with IISc is the first time such a partnership has come out of the lab.
Nishant Batra, Chief Strategy and Technology Officer, Nokia, said: We are proud to work with some of the brightest minds in India’s scientific and academia to make 6G a driving force for India’s economy. Together, we will help realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for India as a leader in 6G standardization, development and implementation. And by exploring his 6G use cases specific to India, we will ensure that 6G addresses the unique needs of the subcontinent. ”
Nordic vendor Ericsson and Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) recently announced a long-term cooperation for joint research in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI), computing and wireless.
Under the terms of the partnership, researchers from both organizations will work together to develop new AI and distributed computing technologies for 6G research.
In September 2023, Ericsson announced the establishment of an India 6G research team at its Chennai R&D Center and the launch of the ‘India 6G’ programme.
The vendor added that its India 6G team comprises a team of senior research leaders and experienced researchers across wireless, networking, AI and cloud domains.
