Samsung has officially confirmed that a large number of Galaxy devices starting in 2023 will be equipped with Galaxy AI, the company’s new suite of AI tools, by the end of this month.
Samsung previously announced final plans to release One UI 6.1, including all new AI features, to the Galaxy S23 and other Galaxy devices last month. However, the company followed up with the following: Posting to a Korean website This confirms that it is scheduled to be released by the end of March.
The news that Samsung is bringing Galaxy AI to some of its older Galaxy devices is exciting, especially for users who didn’t upgrade to the new Galaxy S24 Ultra or the rest of the S24 lineup. In addition to Galaxy AI, One UI 6.1 also brings other updates to last year’s Galaxy devices, but there’s no doubt that the AI feature will be a highlight for many users.
Below is a list of all the phones that Samsung has previously confirmed to come with One UI 6.1.
-
Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, S23 Ultra
-
Galaxy S23FE
-
galaxy z fold 5
-
galaxy z flip 5
-
Galaxy Tab S9, S9 Plus, and S9 Ultra
Samsung has not mentioned any plans to throttle the AI capabilities of these older devices, setting it apart from some competitors. Google has taken a hard line on AI features in the Pixel 8 lineup, even revealing that the regular Pixel 8 will not include the Gemini Nano and most of its future AI features due to “hardware limitations.”
It’s unclear what these limitations are, as the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro both have the same chipset. But on the other hand, all the phones and tablets on the list above run different hardware than the Galaxy S24, where Galaxy AI debuted, so Samsung has no business making new AI features work with older technology. There seems to be no problem.
Features coming with Galaxy AI include translation tools, new photo editing tools, Google’s Circle to Search feature, and more. It’s a shame there’s no firm release date yet, but at least owners of older Galaxy devices can expect these AI features to arrive on their devices sooner rather than later.
