Royal Jordanian is going big with its in-flight Wi-Fi plans. The airline will have about 40 aircraft equipped with internet service using Viasat’s satellite constellation.
Introducing high-speed streaming Wi-Fi on new aircraft, and now on some of our existing fleet, to enable cutting-edge connectivity onboard and offer enhanced and curated services to passengers. Masu. entertainment experience.
– Sameer Majali, Royal Jordanian Airlines Vice Chairman and Director-designate CEO
The first aircraft to be equipped is the company’s new E2 jet. His first two cars recently arrived in Amman from the factory, fully loaded with hardware. The system will be activated on all 8 ordered. The contract also calls for line fit installations on RJ’s upcoming deliveries of 20 A320neo aircraft and six 787-9 aircraft. Finally, the company will retrofit its existing 787-8 fleet with this kit and provide its long-range fleet-wide Wi-Fi service.
Royal Jordanian will leverage Viasat’s high-speed, high-capacity Ka-band satellite network, including the ViaSat-3 constellation, which will be launched and operational. Its coverage footprint is now available on routes to Europe and North America. Some flights to the Middle East will also need to be supported through third-party Ka-band capacity agreements. However, for RJ’s flight to Bangkok (and full performance on all future routes), the airline hopes to have his two remaining ViaSat-3 satellites in orbit. Viasat expects the F3 satellite to launch later this year and the F2 satellite in early 2025.
