6G Lab: Qualcomm, a leading manufacturer of smartphone processors, has partnered with the central government to develop a development roadmap for industrial, automotive and communications electronics. The partnership was announced by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnau on Thursday.
Under the agreement, Qualcomm will also set up 6G labs, building on its success in setting up 100 5G labs across India in collaboration with central and state governments. The initiative aims to advance India’s technological capabilities and pave the way for next-generation connectivity solutions.
The opening of Qualcomm’s Chennai Design Center marks another milestone in this collaboration. The facility, which has invested Rs 177.27 crore, will specialize in wireless connectivity solutions with a focus on innovations that complement Wi-Fi technology.
Mr. Vaishnau emphasized the importance of Qualcomm Design Center and its role in fostering semiconductor design expertise in India. With around 1,600 semiconductor design teams, the center is poised to make a significant contribution to India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
Mr. Vaishnau further reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of establishing a strong semiconductor value chain in India in line with the ‘Make in India’ campaign. The recent cornerstone laying of his three semiconductor facilities and Qualcomm’s investment represent a pivotal step toward achieving self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing.
In addition to semiconductor development, Qualcomm is working on partnering with Indian universities to support 6G research in line with the government’s Bharat 6G vision. This initiative strengthens India’s ambition to lead the world in next-generation communication technologies.
