Ericsson and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) announced a partnership to provide 100 educational institutions with 5G labs access to Ericsson’s online learning platform, Ericsson Educate -21st Century Technologies Programme. A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed between Telecom Center of Excellence (TCOE) India CEO A Robert J Ravi and Dy. Ericsson, Secretary, Ministry of Transport, India and Dr. Nitin Bansal.
DoT has set up 100 5G Use Case Labs in 100 institutions across India with the aim of building capacity and engagement in 5G technology among students and startup communities. Ericsson will open up the Ericsson Educate platform to 10,000 students at these institutions, providing them with access to learning materials on key technologies. Subjects covered at an introductory level as part of the program include automation, telecommunications, AI, IoT, 5G, and machine learning.

The partnership will give both students and instructors access to high-quality digital learning resources that leverage Ericsson’s 145 years of experience in communications and ICT. Content on the Ericsson Educate portal is provided free of charge to students.

The collaboration with DoT is an important step towards developing a 5G-ready workforce in India that can harness the potential of 5G to support the Government of India’s ‘Digital India’ vision. Access to 5G technology-related courses will enable these students to develop use cases that can address the country’s local needs, improve productivity, and accelerate the country’s digitalization efforts.
