For those who can’t afford a flagship smartphone or don’t want to spend more than $1,000 on a phone, Samsung offers a range of mid-range Android devices with decent specs, great looks, and plenty of cameras doing. Today, the manufacturer updated its lineup with two new entries: Galaxy A55 5G and Galaxy A35 5G. Both smartphones promise to “democratize the mobile experience for everyone.”
The new smartphone duo mainly focuses on camera and security improvements. Both smartphones can take better photos in low light conditions and record 12-bit HDR videos in Night Portrait mode with optical image stabilization. The camera set includes a 50MP main camera, 5MP macro lens, 12MP ultra-wide camera on A55 5G, and 8MP on A35 5G. The Galaxy A55 5G has a 32MP front camera, while the A35 5G has a 13MP front camera.
When it comes to security, the Galaxy A55 5G and Galaxy A35 5G come equipped with Samsung Knox Vault, a hardware-based security measure that protects users from hardware and software attacks. This is the first time Samsung has downgraded the Knox Vault from a flagship device to a mid-range model.
The cheaper Galaxy A35 5G also comes with an improved AMOLED display. It ditches the teardrop camera in favor of a simple circular cutout, making 2018 designs a thing of the past. Size-wise, both smartphones feature a 6.1-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a Vision Booster feature that adapts the display to its surroundings.
Another difference between these two seemingly identical smartphones is storage. The Galaxy A55 5G will be available in three configurations: 8GB of RAM with 128GB or 256GB of storage, and 12GB with 256GB of internal memory. Galaxy A35 5G buyers can choose between 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage.
In terms of power, both smartphones feature a 5,000mAh non-removable lithium-ion battery (charger not included).
Samsung hasn’t announced pricing in the US, but the Galaxy A55 5G starts at £439 (about $560), which is less than the £339 (about $339) its cheaper sibling costs in the UK. .
