Samsung’s February 2024 security update is finally available for factory unlocked units of the Galaxy A53 in the US. It’s been over a month since the carrier-locked variant got an update. The company is also pushing new security patches to the Galaxy A32 and Galaxy A13 in the US. These devices may or may not be able to get the March Security update from Samsung.
Galaxy A53 widely gets Samsung’s February update in the US
The Galaxy A53 is one of the first Samsung devices to receive the February 2024 SMR (Security Maintenance Release) in the US. The 2022 mid-range device applied his update at the beginning of February. However, the company only pushed it to the carrier lock variant. I expected the unlocked units to be covered right away as well, but that wasn’t the case. After keeping users waiting for an entire month, Samsung has finally begun its large-scale rollout.
Latest update for US unlocked Galaxy A53 comes with firmware build number A536U1UES8DXA5. According to SamMobile, who first reported this rollout, the update will be available for AT&T, Bluegrass Cellular, C-Spire, Cellular South, Comcast, Cricket, DISH, MetroPCS, T-Mobile, US Cellular, Verizon and Xfinity Mobile.
Like the carrier-locked Galaxy A53, the unlocked unit also only received last month’s security fixes. There are no new features or other changes in this package. Samsung fixed more than 60 security vulnerabilities in February (mostly in Android OS patches released by Google). Some of them contained critical security flaws that could allow threat actors to gain remote access to affected devices.
These security fixes will also be rolled out to Galaxy A32 and Galaxy A13 in the US. According to the publication, the update is currently available for carrier-locked versions of the former and unlocked versions of the latter. The new build numbers are: A326USQSCDXB2 and A136U1UES7DXB1, Each. Naturally, this update only provides security fixes and no additional changes.
March SMR is already rolling out to Galaxy devices
These Galaxy smartphones will get the February update in the US, just as Samsung is rolling out March SMR to other models. Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 have already received the new update.
