(KTLA) — Los Angeles Police Department officials are warning residents of the Wilshire neighborhood of Los Angeles about a series of robberies using Wi-Fi jamming technology that can use radio signals to disable surveillance cameras and alarms.
Police say robberies typically involve three to four suspects entering a home from a second-floor balcony.
Once inside, the thieves target the master bedroom, searching for fine jewelry, wallets, U.S. currency, and other valuables.
“In many cases, these suspects will provide a getaway vehicle and driver to act as lookouts,” authorities said in a statement. community alert.

To thwart this type of robbery, authorities offered the following tips:
- Make sure the electrical box is secured with a padlock, making it difficult for thieves to tamper with your alarm system.
- Don’t tell Uber, Lyft, or taxi drivers that you’re going on vacation or away from home, or post on social media.
- Be on the lookout for suspicious vehicles or rental cars with temporary plates or dealer plates.
- Share your cell phone number with a trusted neighbor and ask them to erase your mail and keep an eye on your residence if you’re not home.
- Place cameras around your home to ensure your alarm DVR is secure and cannot be tampered with.
- Consider moving to a wired alarm system rather than one that works with wireless signals.
- Increase security by installing poles on sliding glass doors to prevent them from being opened easily.
- Place tracking devices like Apple AirTags on valuables like jewelry boxes, wallets, and cars.
- See what shrubbery and trees you can trim or cut to keep your home visible
- Install proper lighting and security signs, and keep the lights on in your home at all times, especially when you’re away.
