Vivo on Thursday (March 7) announced its new V30 series 5G phones in India.
The company offers the V30 in two variants – the regular V30 and the top-of-the-line V30 Pro, with prices starting at Rs 33,999.
I’ve been using the V30 (12GB RAM + 256GB) for a week now, and here are my thoughts on Vivo’s latest premium Android phone.
Building design, quality and display
It flaunts a sophisticated design language with a curved screen that cascades to almost the center edge of the frame on each side.
The back of the Vivo V30 features a unique square Aura LED flash setup and a vertically aligned rectangular camera module.

The device is super slim and easy to carry. Thanks to the ergonomic design, your fingers will have a better grip to hold the device. It is only 7.45mm thick and weighs 186g.
Our review unit is the Peacock Green version. The company has incorporated Fluorite AG (Anti-Glare) glass on the back. It’s silky smooth and shines brightly when sunlight hits the back panel.
The new gorgeous Vivo phone can change color under direct sunlight. It changes from deep emerald green to deep ocean blue within seconds.

In particular, it does an amazing job of repelling sweaty finger stains on the panel. It is impossible to get your phone dirty.
On the front, a Schott Xensation α glass shield protects the screen from scratches. In addition, a custom aluminum alloy is used for the frame around the screen.
The company says it took inspiration from the curves of air raid shelters to create a protective shell with a soft yet sturdy structure to withstand impact on hard surfaces during accidental drops.
This design allows the impact force from a fall to bypass the electronic components and is transferred to the sturdy frame, which distributes the force and also minimizes internal and external damage.

Additionally, the device has an IP54 rating and can withstand water splashes.
Vivo also provides a free soft clear silicone cover case that comes with the retail box. The see-through design not only lets you see the beautiful back panel of your phone, but also protects your device from cracking or denting if accidentally dropped.
Besides Peacock Green, the company also offers the device in two other colors: Andaman Blue and Classic Black.
One issue with the Vivo V30 is that the SIM slot on the base is located right next to the microphone. Customers should be careful when using the ejector tool and make sure to place the pin in the slot on the right side of the SIM tray (far left) and not in the hole next to the Type-C port.

On the front, it features a 6.78-inch Full HD+ (2800×1260p) AMOLED screen with a 20:9 aspect ratio. Supports HDR10+ and 120Hz refresh rate.
The company uses very high quality AMOLED panels. Supports peak brightness up to 2,800nits. Provides an excellent viewing experience.
When playing videos, the colors of objects in the scene are reproduced brightly and vividly, close to the natural colors. When you watch nature documentaries, you’ll notice how great the displays are.
The display is highly responsive to touch inputs and offers a smooth browsing experience thanks to its high refresh rate.

It also supports eye comfort function that reduces the emission of harmful blue light. You can also schedule it to start at night. This feature reduces eye strain when reading e-books or watching multimedia content in dark environments.
The in-display fingerprint sensor works fine as long as your fingers are clean and dry.
performance
Powered by 4nm class Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 octa-core with Adreno 720 GPU, 8GB/12GB LPDDR4X RAM, 128GB/256GB UFS 2.2 storage.
Throughout the review period, the Vivo V30 ran smoothly with no pressing issues to complain about. It can handle everything from everyday tasks like switching between apps, controlling the camera, streaming videos from OTT apps, playing graphics-rich Asfalt 9: Legends, and more.
And the phone itself does not overheat. It can get a little hot while recording 4K video, but not enough to cause any complaints.
The company has incorporated a large vapor cooling chamber (3002 mm²) with 11 temperature sensors to ensure efficient heat dissipation and prevent the device from overheating.
You can also double your physical memory using the “Extended RAM” feature. It is turned on by default on devices. 12GB + 12GB (virtual) RAM makes your device responsive. The app loads faster than usual.

Switching between apps is also smoother, allowing users to pick up exactly where they left off before moving on to another app.
It runs Funtouch OS 14 based on Android 14. It includes several third-party apps such as Amazon, Netflix, and Snapchat, as well as all core Google apps.
The company offers a base storage model with 128GB and a top-end model with 256GB. This is more than enough for regular smartphone users. There is plenty of storage available to users, allowing them to install hundreds of apps and save photos and videos with the camera app.
Comes with a 5,000mAh battery. With normal use, we consistently achieved more than a day of battery life. Even under extreme usage, including 3 hours of video playback (offline), a gaming session, and several scrolls on social media platforms, the device still had over 25 percent remaining at the end of the night before bed. .

The company also provides a free 80W fast charger in the retail box. The device can be fully charged from zero to 100% within 50 minutes.
The Vivo V30 comes with just two nano SIM slots, both of which support 5G. There is also a speaker installed on the bottom. This device performs well, offering good audio output with little distortion even at maximum volume.
It supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.5Ghz + 5Ghz) and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity, but lacks Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality.

You can get some decent results when it comes to human faces, but when capturing flowers there is a noticeable color boost for warmer colors. I can’t find any issues to complain about here, as the photos look great and capture a lot of detail.

Compared to previous versions, the latest V30 series phones feature larger and better Aura LED lights, delivering studio-quality portraits in multiple lighting conditions. It excels at capturing human faces, reproducing fine details of skin tones, even at night.

When night mode is turned on, the Vivo phone better balances the light from street lights and other light sources around you. It also ensures that the night sky remains dark and natural in the scenes captured by the camera. This is much better than other competing brands of phones that turn a black sky into a deep blue like a photo taken in the evening.

Ultra-wide mode allows you to view a wide range of landscapes with plenty of detail and color accuracy.

We have others, too. The native camera supports numerous filters and tools to adjust cheek size, eyes, and even nose to get the best photo for display picture (DP) on social media platforms.
