New Delhi: According to an official document, the University of Delhi has allocated a budget of Rs 6,771 crore to build a WiFi network across all the university’s campuses and in the women’s hostel planned to be built in Mukherjee Nagar in northwest Delhi. The document states that WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) connectivity will be extended to around 90 universities, including both the north and south campuses of Delhi University and the Dhaka hostel complex.
According to a PTI report, the implementation of the proposed project will be financed from the loan corpus amounting to Rs 938.33 crore secured by the university from the Higher Education Finance Authority (HEFA) in October last year. This loan corpus is earmarked for various development initiatives.
A portion of Rs 261.33 million from this corpus was approved by HEFA for the establishment of a WiFi network along with the commencement of construction of the building earmarked for the Faculty of Technology.
HEFA, a joint initiative of Canara Bank and the Ministry of Education, extends financial support for strengthening educational infrastructure and research facilities within India’s leading educational institutions.
In 2022, the University of Delhi will receive HEFA financing to address its infrastructure requirements and expansion initiatives, including projects such as the establishment of DU’s East Delhi campus in Surajmal Vihar and the opening of a new university in Najafgarh. I have submitted my application.
In addition, the agency has agreed to proposals for five other projects to be funded by HEFA loans, and work will begin once funding is approved.
