As part of our commitment to bring Canadians the biggest and best network, Rogers once again had a strong presence at the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
It is the industry’s largest and most influential event, bringing together wireless carriers, equipment and smartphone manufacturers, and software providers from around the world. This is a great opportunity for our team to see first-hand the next generation of technology and innovation to inform our technology strategy and roadmap.
Collaborate on next generation technology solutions
The Rogers team met with global partners who are helping bring the best and latest technology to Canada. The team met with SpaceX and Lynk Global to discuss expanding satellite-to-cell coverage in Canada in 2024. We also connected with our 5G vendor, Ericsson, to learn about the leading global network solutions and opportunities that our collaboration will build upon. Completes Canada’s first national live test of 5G network slicing.
Evolving API
As 5G expands around the world, the evolution of APIs was widely discussed at MWC. Rogers works with industry leaders to advance his API and support the development of network-enabled applications. Microsoft announced new Azure Programmable Connectivity, a global API platform. Rogers is Microsoft’s first Canadian partner.
As a founding member of the 5G Future Forum (5GFF), Rogers also participated in the development of a whitepaper exploring bidirectional APIs announced at MWC. This new approach enables developers to bring more innovative, resilient, network-enabled applications to market faster.
Winning awards on the global stage
Finally, Ron McKenzie from our Chief Technology Information Office was awarded Umlaut’s 2023 “Best in Test” award. Umlaut ranked Rogers as Canada’s No. 1 wireless carrier for his fifth consecutive year. This recognition recognizes our efforts to provide a world-class network and help Canadians stay connected anytime, anywhere.
The team is looking forward to participating in next year’s MWC.
