Mobile network infrastructure provider Buysells announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with Indonesian telecommunications company SmartFren Telecom to provide 4G and 5G network solutions for private networks in Indonesia.
Under the partnership, Baicells will provide turnkey network solutions to Smartfren for digital industrialization, automation, and private wireless products scheduled to launch this year, starting with a private LTE network serving a large-scale mining environment outside Jakarta. Offers.
Baicells will provide its portfolio of outdoor 4G LTE Nova and 5G NR Aurora all-in-one high-power radios to Smartfren, which operates as a service provider and system integrator.
The network will initially be used to connect self-driving vehicles such as large earth-moving and demolition machines used at mining sites. Other use cases such as IoT sensors, voice communications, and video surveillance can be added later, Baicells said.
Mr Baicells also said that private 4G and 5G networks are suitable for mining environments, which are typically located in remote areas where commercial mobile broadband connectivity is weak or non-existent. Additionally, private 4G and 5G are more attractive than Wi-Fi in use cases like self-driving cars because they offer specific QoS levels and low latency that enable the predictive performance needed for self-driving cars. According to Baicells, initial trials of the private network have been completed and the first deployment will operate in the 2300 MHz LTE band. The network is expected to go live in the first quarter of this year.

The Baicells deal is Smartfren’s latest move in going after Indonesia’s private network market.
