Samsung Electronics has become a founding member of a global research alliance aiming to build an ecosystem for next-generation 6G communication technology based on artificial intelligence (AI).
Samsung Electronics has joined the AI-Radio Access Network (RAN) Alliance, which was officially launched on Monday during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, the company said on Monday.
Ten communications and software companies joined the partnership, including Nvidia Corp., Arm Holdings Plc, SoftBank Corp., Ericsson Inc. and Nokia Corp.. Northwestern University is the only unincorporated member.
Through its participation in the alliance, Samsung Electronics aims to lead the expansion of 6G research and ecosystem by applying AI to wireless communication technology, fostering service innovation, and improving network efficiency.
The Alliance has established three working groups tasked with conducting technology research: AI for RAN, AI and RAN, and AI on RAN.
The AI for RAN group researches wireless communications optimization using AI and machine learning to improve frequency, cost, and energy efficiency.
The AI and RAN group is delving into the convergence of AI and wireless networks to streamline resource management and infrastructure utilization.
The AI on RAN group aims to discover new AI applications and services within wireless networks.
Samsung Electronics expects that the technical reports, white papers, and research results obtained from the working group will contribute to the identification of new service areas and the promotion of 6G standardization and commercialization.
