Lockheed Martin Demonstrates Scalable, Portable Maintenance Capabilities on 5G Networks
bethesdaMaryland, April 3, 2023 – Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) successfully demonstrated analytics-driven maintenance capabilities compatible with the Department of Defense’s 5G flightline ecosystem. This is a critical step in providing real-time, actionable information to military personnel to improve aircraft readiness and reduce costs.
In this demonstration to U.S. Army and Air Force officials, the Network-enabled Analytics for Readiness 5G initiative (NeAR) demonstrated how 5G communications technology and advanced analytics can minimize maintenance burdens on a variety of aircraft. I showed you. NeAR is part of the Under Secretary of Defense’s Office of Research and Engineering (OUSD(R&E))’s FutureG initiative.
“This proof of concept demonstrates that our analysis tools are scalable and portable across multiple platforms, with the right speed and We have demonstrated that maintenance can be improved.” “These intelligent troubleshooting applications are compatible with his future-state 5G.MIL® ecosystem and are consistent with his 21st century security commitment to keeping customers always prepared. .”
After an aircraft lands, NeAR applications provide maintainers and technical experts with complete flight data recording, AI-powered predictive maintenance, and sensor data analysis. Lockheed Martin has integrated this technology with mobile devices to provide these capabilities to military personnel on the flight line, facilitating faster decision-making.
“The success of NeAR as part of broader OUSD(R&E) 5G capabilities demonstrates 5G enhancements for the Warfighter, as well as testing to identify areas suitable for further research and development beyond 5G at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. It will make it possible.” Deb Stanislawski, his Accelerate Use Prototyping and Experimentation Director in the OUSD (R&E) FutureG & 5G Office.
One such application provides AI-driven cognitive search capabilities directly to individual maintainers and technical experts who need to diagnose aircraft problems in real-time. Users can instantly search all past maintenance records across their fleet to identify similar issues and their solutions. This information is invaluable for efficient and effective troubleshooting, minimizing aircraft downtime and erroneous maintenance operations.
These demonstrations build on Lockheed Martin’s efforts to develop future 5G-enabled flight lines. In August, the engineer demonstrated that his 5G technology enables fast and secure data transfer for maintenance analysis. NeAR shows what can be done with data obtained from aircraft. This technology leverages multi-access edge computing to reduce the distance and latency gap between data requests and data delivery.
Lockheed Martin’s work in 5G.MIL helps customers quickly and affordably implement, extend, and integrate 5G technology into edge military communications systems for land, water, air, space, and cyber applications. Enables disparate network connectivity for operations.
