The government has granted Vodafone Fiji a 5G non-commercial operating license.
Vodafone Fiji will conduct rigorous end-user testing on its 5G pilot network before a full commercial license is issued later this year.
Vodafone Fiji’s 5G Live User Trial will be implemented in selected areas of the Suva CBD and will be further expanded to the greater Suva area in the coming months.
Vodafone Fiji is working to further expand its 5G network and coverage area in preparation for commercial launch.
CEO Eleanor Bikoto said Vodafone had invested more than $100 million to upgrade and strengthen its network to support 5G.
She added that this investment will enable the Vodafone network to be commercially ready for 5G services.
Mr Bikoto said this significant investment will enable Vodafone to continue to be a leader in inclusive growth and innovation for all Fijians, while also contributing to the growth of the Fijian economy.
She added that the benefits of 5G are immense, being significantly faster than 4G, with peak speeds exceeding 1Gbps.
So this means faster streaming, gaming, and real-time connectivity.
5G also has lower latency, virtually eliminating lag time, and can support more devices simultaneously, even in crowded locations.
This advantage will enable a variety of applications and services, including smart use cases such as IoT, augmented reality, virtual reality, smart homes, offices, and cities, it added.
Biukoto says 5G will revolutionize the way we experience connectivity.
She powers entertainment, communication, productivity, and lifestyle applications by adding faster internet speeds, lower latency, and support for a vast number of connected devices.
He added that businesses will also greatly benefit from 5G due to improved connectivity, faster data transfer speeds and reduced latency, enabling innovative solutions, process optimization and increased productivity. .
The CEO said Vodafone Fiji is committed to bringing the full potential of 5G to Fiji.
