Samsung and Princeton University collaborate on 6G research

Samsung Electronics will collaborate with Princeton University to lead research and development (R&D) efforts on 6G communications technology.

Samsung Research America (SRA) on Tuesday announced that it will partner with Princeton University as a founding member of Princeton’s NextG Initiative Corporate Affiliates Program. SRA will actively participate in this initiative and contribute to the innovation of wireless and networking system technology in the field of 6G.

6G technology features transmission speeds of more than 100 gigabits per second (Gb/s) and speeds of up to 1 terabits per second (1Tb/s), more than 50 times faster than current 5G technology.

Launched in 2023 by Princeton University’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the NextG initiative serves as a platform to enhance knowledge exchange between industry and academia. Focused on supporting the development and innovation of next-generation communications technologies, it also covers research areas such as cloud computing, intelligent sensing, and network resiliency. Prominent global communications and semiconductor companies such as Ericsson, Intel, MediaTek, Nokia Bell Labs, Qualcomm Technologies, and Vodafone have also joined the NextG Initiative as founding members.

Samsung Electronics has been at the forefront of 6G research since opening the Advanced Communications Research Center (ACRC) under Samsung Research in May 2019.
