Poco X6 Pro 5G review: Decent mid-range performance

Rating: 3.5/5
Poco’s mid-range products are always performance-oriented. The on-paper specs of the company’s latest offering, Poco X6 Pro 5G, also show its potential to deliver strong performance and a smooth gaming experience. This new smartphone is the first to debut MediaTek’s Dimensity 8300 Ultra chipset globally, and is also the first smartphone to feature Xiaomi’s new HyperOS in the country.

The Poco X6 Pro is available in three different colors: Specter Black, Racing Gray, and Poco Yellow (vegan leather finish). The 8GB+256GB storage version of the smartphone is priced at Rs 24,999. We’ve been using the 12GB + 512GB version of the Poco X6 Pro in Racing Gray color for a few weeks now, and here’s what we think about the smartphone.

Design The smartphone has a lightweight yet sturdy design that provides a premium look. The Poco X6 Pro felt nice in the hand, and the weight of the phone felt evenly distributed and well balanced.

The back panel is hardened plastic with metal rails. However, we recommend using your smartphone with the back panel back cover. The shape and size of the phone was also not bulky and easily fit in my pocket.

Like its predecessor, the Poco X6 Pro 5G’s camera module is located in a block that houses three things: a sensor, an LED flashlight, and Poco branding. The Racing Gray variant has a glass finish on the back panel, giving it a nice look and a slippery feel. Unfortunately, the panel is prone to fingerprints, necessitating the use of a protective cover. Moreover, this phone has obtained his IP54 rating, indicating its ability to withstand light rain and occasional splashes of water.

Expanding

The volume rocker and power button are located on the right spine of the phone, leaving the left rail empty. The USB-C charging port and SIM tray are located below the screen, while dual speaker grills are located on both the top and bottom. The overall design of the Racing Gray variant seems light, durable and decent.

Display The display of the Poco X6 Pro 5G is one of the key highlights of the smartphone. With a 120Hz refresh rate and 2160Hz touch sampling rate, the screen felt very smooth and responsive. So was the in-display fingerprint sensor placed below the screen. The Poco X6 series is also the company’s first lineup to come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. A quick, soft tap unlocked the screen, and I didn’t notice any hiccups in between.
The colors produced by the 6.67-inch 1.5K resolution display were crisp and vibrant. Both the gaming and content streaming experience provided by the HDR10+ support panel tuned to Dolby Vision were very impressive.

This panel also supports 1800 nits of peak brightness, which is enough for situations where the phone is used in direct sunlight. The Poco X6 Pro’s screen was clearly visible even when used outdoors, and we had no issues with the visibility of the device.

The smartphone display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which keeps the screen safe from occasional bumps and drops. The panel also includes a centrally located punch hole that houses the selfie camera.

Performance Aside from the display, the overall performance of the Poco X6 Pro is quite impressive. Powered by the 4nm-based MediaTek Dimensity 8300-Ultra chipset, this phone can easily perform both daily activities as well as hours of long-duration gaming.

The phone is fairly fast for normal day-to-day use and I didn’t notice any lag while using it. The performance offered by the SoC can be compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 flagship chipset, which is found in much more expensive phones than this one.

During our testing, the phone was able to run heavy games like BGMI and Asphalt without breaking a sweat. The smartphone seemed to be able to handle graphics-intensive games like Genshin without any problems. We also tested the game on high settings and at 60fps, and the phone handled it like a charm.

Thanks to the 5,000 square millimeter vapor chamber with LiquidCool Technology 2.0, we experienced no heating issues or stutters. WildBoost Optimization 2.0 technology, including Game Mode, also helped improve the smartphone’s overall gaming performance.

In summary, I didn’t experience any overheating or lag when running heavy games or apps. The performance offered by the smartphone is outstanding in this price range.

Poco X6 Pro 5G brings Xiaomi’s new HyperOS to India. This smartphone runs on his HyperOS based on Android 14 out of the box. The new operating system is an improvement on the company’s MIUI. The animations on HyperOS were very smooth and added some nice features as well.

HyperOS allows users to customize their lock screen a lot, which is a nice touch. Users are also expected to get faster software updates with this software. Poco promised to provide the phone with three years of Android updates and several years of security patches.

Finally, HyperOS also includes some bloatware, but the smartphone allows users to uninstall most of it. This operating system also allows users to remove system apps such as Calculator, Calendar, etc.

The smartphone’s audio performance was also commendable. Dual stereo speakers tuned to Dolby Atmos provided an immersive experience. Poco X6 Pro also supports both Hi-Res and Hi-Res Wireless Audio.

The audio performance provided both while gaming and while watching content was quite impressive. Dual side-firing speakers deliver loud and powerful sound. The sound quality and sense of separation were very good. I didn’t hear any distortion even at higher levels.

Camera Let’s move on to the camera. Poco X6 Pro has a triple rear camera setup that includes a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro unit. I clicked a few pictures on my smartphone day and night. The output produced by the phone’s main camera looked pretty decent. The pictures clicked using the ultra-wide camera also looked good enough.
The 16MP selfie camera on the front can record up to 1080p videos at up to 60fps. The selfies clicked on the phone also looked great and video calls on this phone were also comfortable.

Coming back to the rear camera, the 4K video recorded by the rear camera at 30fps was satisfactory. This smartphone supports both his OIS and EIS, and the video output was crisp and stable. Poco imaging engine also enhances the photos and videos recorded on this phone.

Smartphone camera apps are user-friendly and easy to operate. The app also supports multiple features to help you while shooting, including Pro Mode, Voice Shutter, Teleprompter, Document Mode, Long Exposure, Film Camera Mode, and Motion Tracking Focus. Portrait mode and night mode also worked well. Users can also choose from a variety of existing filters while taking or clicking a photo.

For connectivity, the smartphone also includes NFC and IR Blaster, as well as all other features.

Battery The smartphone is equipped with a 5000mAh battery unit that can easily last more than a day. Poco X6 Pro also supports 67-watt USB-C Turbo charging that can fully charge the battery to 100% in just over 30 minutes.

Verdict Overall, the Poco X6 Pro 5G offers impressive performance, a decent camera, and long-lasting battery life. If you are looking for a new phone in the mid-range segment (under Rs 30,000) that can offer you a great content viewing and gaming experience, then you should consider the Poco X6 Pro as a serious option.
