Nokia signs 5G patent cross-licensing agreement with vivo
- License covers Nokia’s fundamental inventions in mobile phone technology
- Nokia will receive multi-year payments from vivo, with additional payments to cover the period of dispute
- Nokia has signed patent license agreements with six major smartphone vendors in the past 13 months.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced that it has signed a multi-year patent cross-licensing agreement with vivo. Under the agreement, vivo will pay royalties to Nokia and will also pay compensation to cover the dispute period. This agreement resolves all patent litigation pending between the parties in all jurisdictions. Terms and conditions will be treated as confidential as agreed between the parties.
Jenny Lucander, President of Nokia Technologies, said: “This is the sixth major smartphone patent license agreement we have entered into in the past 13 months, and we are nearing completion of the smartphone license renewal cycle. It demonstrates Nokia’s significant contribution to the development of the technology and will provide long-term stability to our licensing business for many years to come.” Mr Lucander added: “We are pleased to have reached an agreement with vivo that reflects mutual respect for each other’s intellectual property rights. vivo is one of the leading companies in the global smartphone industry. The agreement is consistent with the assumptions disclosed to Nokia Technologies in Nokia’s fourth quarter financial report issued on January 25, 2024. Nokia will begin recognizing net revenue from this agreement starting in the first quarter, including catch-up payments to cover the unpaid period. 2024.
