[Barcelona, Spain, March 6, 2024] At the 5.5G Industry Summit at MWC Barcelona 2024, the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) launched the initiative “Embrace the Prosperous 5G Advanced Era”. The GSMA 5G Futures Community has grown to include nearly 60 carriers and industry partners, and the 5.5G ecosystem is further maturing to take this technology to a new level around the world. is shown.
The evolution to 5.5G is already an industry consensus. This reflects the active development of the GSMA 5G Futures Community, which has grown from just 19 members when it was founded a year ago at MWC Barcelona 2023 to a growing number of members, including major carriers and major equipment vendors. , industry partners increased to 58 companies. The entire ICT industry is working to promote 5.5G.
At the summit, the GSMA also released the white paper 5G-Advanced: Shaping the future of operator services. The white paper states that the first wave of 5.5G deployment will begin in 2024. He also highlights that 5.5G will improve the coverage, mobility, speed and energy efficiency of his 5G networks, creating new value for carriers and their customers.
John Gao, Huawei’s president of 5.5G domain, was invited to speak at the summit. In his speech, Mr. Gao explained the service development and business value of 5.5G, and unveiled Huawei’s multipath solution for the evolution to 5.5G.
5G is rapidly evolving to create new experiences, connections, and services. This includes a 3D connection of a person’s girlfriend. This requires her 500 Mbps experience and 20ms latency for a single user. His fast-growing FWA service is only possible on networks that offer a fiber-like experience from 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Intelligent Vehicle-to-X (V2X) services require 20ms latency with 99% reliability. All intelligent connectivity and smart manufacturing requires even stronger uplink performance. These new services present both opportunities and challenges for carriers and network capabilities.
Operators in different regions will follow different evolutionary paths to 5.5G depending on their 5G spectrum.
One is TDD multiband deployment. Extremely Large Antenna Arrays (ELAAs) are one of the key technologies that can increase spectral efficiency and reduce cost per bit and power consumption by a factor of 10. This path using these technologies maximizes the potential to enable immersive services such as commercial XR and naked-eye 3D. TDD multiband deployments, on the other hand, give you the high bandwidth you need to increase capacity and improve your experience. Therefore, this path will help you take full advantage of the deterministic capabilities of 5.5G to ensure user experience and open up new monetization areas.
Another path is based on adding TDD to FDD. Moving all bands to 5G will help reduce the cost of operating and maintaining four generations of mobile networks simultaneously. Based on Multi-Band Serving Cell (MBSC) and Flexible Spectrum Access (FSA), you can ensure a consistent service experience for connecting people and things.
Combining these paths with mmWave or upper 6 GHz (U6G) bands improves enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), facilitates upselling of service packages, and scales up FWA provisioning.
“The first year of commercial 5.5G has arrived. The industry has identified commercial use cases for 5.5G, validated its business value, and defined the evolutionary path to 5.5G,” Gao explained. “We will continue to work with all industry partners to build a thriving 5.5G industry, unlock its potential, and improve connectivity for consumers and businesses.”
MWC Barcelona 2024 will be held in Barcelona, Spain from February 26th to February 29th. During the event, Huawei will be showcasing its latest products and solutions for 1 hour and 50 minutes at Fira Gran Via Hall 1 stand.
Toward the commercial launch of 5.5G in 2024, Huawei is collaborating with carriers and partners around the world to pursue exciting new innovations in networks, cloud, and intelligence. Together, we will advance his 5G business, foster a thriving industry ecosystem, and build a new era of intelligent digital transformation.
