The main difference between this 2021 model and the new 2022 model is the processor. The 2021 iPad Pro has an M1 chip, and the 2022 iPad Pro has an M2 chip. The M2 chip boasts a 15% faster CPU and 35% faster GPU. However, keep in mind that the 2021 iPad Pro with its M1 chip was already the fastest tablet at the time. The majority of people (mobile gamers included) are unlikely to scoff at the M1’s performance. Unless you’re a pro who uses the iPad Pro as part of your photo, video and audio editing, or graphics workflow, you probably don’t need to pay more than $200 for an upgrade.
The processor is different, but the display is the same. Both models feature a gorgeous 12.9-inch 2048×2732 (265ppi) Liquid Retina XDR Mini-LED display not found on any other iPad. The new 2022 models don’t have the transition to OLED or Micro LED, so we’ll have to wait another year or two to see potential display upgrades.
