MSI showed off their upcoming MPG X870E Carbon WIFI motherboard at Gamescom 2024, which comes with a ton of great features and IO capabilities.
MSI’s MPG X870E Carbon WIFI motherboard is packed with features, powerful power delivery and excellent IO capabilities
The MSI MPG X870E Carbon WIFI motherboard is engineered from the inside out to be a powerful high-end solution. The motherboard is a standard ATX design and features a visually stunning all-black color scheme. The motherboard also comes with RGB aesthetics, including the MPG logo on the PCH and the MSI “Dragon” logo on the IO plate.
Speaking of specifications, the MSI MPG X870E Carbon WIFI motherboard features a 20-phase VRM solution with an 18+2+1 phase design with 110A power stages. The motherboard is designed to scale with current and future generations of Ryzen CPUs compatible with the AM5 socket. The motherboard also features four DDR5 DIMM slots, capable of supporting capacities up to 192 GB and speeds of over 8000 MT/s. The motherboard is powered through dual 8-pin connectors.
Design-wise, the MSI MPG X870E Carbon WIFI motherboard comes with a ton of faceplates and heatsinks. The entire M.2 area is covered with a heatsink, both of which feature an EZ M.2 latch for easy removal and installation. This user-friendly design is also complemented by MSI’s EZ PCIe release mechanism that allows for easy removal of the primary PCIe device.
This design was also seen on the other two X870 products announced at Computex 2024. It has two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, and four M.2 slots with combined Gen5/Gen4 functionality. The top slot has a magnetic lock and RGB lighting shines through the “Carbon” logo.
Since the X870E motherboard features Gen5 slots, the company added a dedicated 8-pin power input at the bottom to power the PCIe lanes. All four M.2 slots come with double-sided M.2 SSD thermal pads and have many useful features such as power on/off, reset switch, debug LED, EZ debug LED, right-angled ports, etc. There are two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 3.2Gen2 port, and four SATA III ports.
Removing the top VRM heatsink reveals a secondary heatsink used to cool the USB4 controller which powers the two USB4 ports on the rear IO panel, as well as a secondary PCB which houses three buttons (Flash BIOS, Clear CMOS, Smart Button) and six USB 10G ports.
There are also two 10G USB Type-C ports, three 10G USB Type-A ports, an HDMI port, a WIFI7 antenna connector, a 7.1 channel HD audio jack, 5GbE and 2.5 GbE LAN inputs. This motherboard has a well-rounded design that has everything you need. MSI also has a higher-end X870E MEG series product, but that will be announced at the official launch on September 30th, so stay tuned for more information.
